On April 8st, 2006, the writing contest New "A Brief Message from the Heart", the 3^rd such event, was held in Maruoka-cho, Fukui Prefecture.

A total of 23,579 entries were received to the contest on the theme of "Love" from not only domestic but also worldwide, out of which 148 works received a prize. (5 works were selected for Grand Prize, 10 works for Award for Excellence, 20 for Sumitomo Award, 10 for Award for Message, 5 for Maruoka Junior Chamber Award, 98 for Honorable Mention)

The works which received a prize were read aloud by voice actress Fuyumi Shiraishi and Maruoka High School students at the venue.
