Annual Shinto ritual at Oyamazumi Shrine

On May 9, 2024, an annual Shinto ritual, what is called “Reitaisai-Shiki” was held at Oyamazumi Shrine in Niihama City. The ceremony was filmed with the cooperation of Sumitomo Group companies that have sites in Niihama.

This annual Shinto ritual was attended by representatives of the following Sumitomo Group companies that have sites in Niihama:
Sumitomo Metal Mining, Sumitomo Chemical, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Sumitomo Joint Electric Power,
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Forestry, Sumitomo Mitsui Construction, Sumitomo Besshi Hospital,
Sumitomo Life Insurance, Sumitomo Corporation, and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance

On May 9, 1691, the Edo Shogunate granted authorization for the operation of the Besshi Copper Mines. A Shinto ritual is held on May 9 every year, attended by representatives of eleven Sumitomo Group companies that have factories or offices in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture.

Although the Besshi Copper Mines closed in 1973, representatives of Sumitomo Group companies continue to visit Oyamazumi Shrine in Niihama City on that date every year to express their gratitude and pray for safety.

Cedar and cypress logged in the Sumitomo Forest are a source of building materials for the Sumitomo Pavilion and also for commemorative goods, merchandise, benches, and so on. Fittingly, with the cooperation of Sumitomo Metal Mining, the secretariat of the Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee filmed this year’s ceremony. The video will be posted on the Sumitomo Pavilion’s official website and social media.
