On February 4, 2025, Kesennuma Junior High School in Kesennuma City welcomed a special guest as part of the EXPO School Caravan program. Mr. Hideyuki Terajima, Deputy Secretary-General of the Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee, led an engaging session that introduced students to Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
The EXPO School Caravan, spearheaded by the Cabinet Secretariat’s Headquarters for the World Expo, is designed to spark curiosity among youngsters across Japan. By using Expo 2025 as a platform, the initiative encourages young minds to imagine the future society and think about their role in shaping it.
As an official exhibitor, the Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee provided students with insights into the significance of the Sumitomo Pavilion, explaining its concept, objectives, and the broader vision behind the Expo.
This year, for the first time, Kesennuma Junior High School has chosen Osaka and the Kansai region as the destination for its school trip in July, made possible in part by a local tax subsidy. With their upcoming visit to Expo 2025 in mind, students shared their excitement: “I’m so glad I could learn about the Sumitomo Pavilion beforehand” and “What I experienced today will help me make the most of my visit” were typical comments. The EXPO School Caravan visit was covered by multiple local media outlets.
The Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee will be holding eight classes during the EXPO School Caravan.
