On February 12, 2025, the EXPO School Caravan made a stop at Minaminaruse Junior High School in Machida City. Ms. Miho Mizumoto and Mr. Tomoshi Kurauchi, Staff of the Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee, captivated the students with a session sparking their curiosity about the upcoming World Expo.
The EXPO School Caravan, led by the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the World Expo within the Cabinet Secretariat, is a nationwide educational initiative. Harnessing the momentum of the upcoming Expo 2025, the program encourages students to contemplate the future of society and consider their role in shaping it.
Two representatives from the Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee conducted a total of five hours of classes. They provided an overview of Expo 2025, discussed the significance and objectives of Sumitomo’s participation, and introduced the key features of the Sumitomo Pavilion.
The junior high school students asked many thoughtful questions: “Is the forest in the pavilion real or artificial?” “What will happen to the forest after the Expo ends?” “Will the exhibits in the forest be recycled?” “How many years did it take to develop this concept?” “How many people are involved in running the secretariat?” “What can we do to protect nature for future generations?”
Minaminaruse Junior High School has scheduled a visit to Expo 2025 as part of its school excursion. Many students expressed excitement, with one commenting, “I’m now really looking forward to experiencing the Expo in person!”
The Sumitomo EXPO2025 Promotion Committee will be holding eight classes during the EXPO School Caravan.
